“Sculpture de Poignet : ImmenSEAty”

The first creation by Gabriel Salgado de Arce in the Confrérie Horlogère upmarket watch brand’s “Les Complications” collection is his splendidly inventive “Sculpture de Poignet : ImmenSEAty” – “Wrist
Sculpture : ImmenSEAty”.

A one-of-a-kind creation destined to remain forever unique, this timepiece embodies a full measure of the passion and personality of an art-loving sculptor and metal chaser, Gabriel Salgado de Arce. Its most striking feature of his “ImmenSEAty” is the three-dimensional ornamentation found all over the watch, not least figures in the round that their author could simply not repeat in a second such piece, no matter how hard he tried. He has sculpted an entire undersea universe onto a proprietary movement that bit by bit reveals any number of marine creatures. Crab-like animals only visible under magnification, tiny turtles and starfish, mantises and seashells – all move in step with the beat of the watch’s mechanical movement.

This microcosm can only be explored and fully revealed under magnification. It speaks of its author’s fascination with a world that can never be plumbed to its ultimate depths. For Gabriel Salgado de Arce, the sea is the source of wave after wave of intense emotions, the same that are found on his incredible little masterpiece. Over 1,000 hours of work went into fashioning the watch’s sculpted decor...

“When I look down I see the ocean depths. When I look up I see the expanse of the universe”, he says, referring to the parallel dimension of his art and character. The sea and the sky do in fact come together in “ImmenSEAty”. Its glareproofed sapphire crystal reveals an expanse of sea as well as various unexpected indications. Along with the centrally positioned hours and minutes on Earth, the watch shows the time on Neptune, Uranus and Saturn on individual subdials arrayed on the upper part of the main dial. For the record, please note that a day on Saturn lasts 10.656 hours, on Uranus 17.24 hours and on Neptune 16.11 hours.

“ImmenSEAty” comes with a hand-wound mechanical movement that provides five days of power reserve. It features a flying tourbillon, i.e. one with suspended carriage, at 6 o’clock, that includes a Swiss lever escapement and a construction allowing the carriage to rotate in exactly one minute without resorting to ball bearings. The watch’s power reserve is read off a 120° sectoral indicator positioned between 8 and 9 o’clock on the dial.

Delicate shadings obtained by the metallic oxidation of the sculpture’s own metals add a subtle touch of distinction to the watch.

Designed like a ring that opens as would a window on the sea, the case carefully built to highlight the movement-cum-sculpture designed by Gabriel Salgado de Arce.

The giftbox designed to hold this extraordinary piece of horological art is just as exclusive as its contents. Its sides open to provide an elbow rest as well as a stand on which to position the timepiece. A high-definition camera with fibre-optic cable allows the projection on an ultra-flat screen built into the giftbox the timepiece’s most minute features and decorative details.

Finally, like all Confrérie Horlogère products, “ImmenSEAty” benefits from a lifetime warranty and the totally Swiss-made provenance of its every part and component.
