Mont Blanc  2010 Novelties (Collection Villeret)

For the second year in a row, Mont Blanc Villeret collection has came out with some really technically innovative novelties.

The stars of this year's collection (as well as the talk of the SIHH!) are the Metamorphosis, the Vintage Chronograph (which, via a pre-SIHH release, has generated a lot of excitement amongst Purists, yours truly included), the ExoTourbillon Chronograph, and the Rieussec with silicon escapement.

The Metamorphosis is a paradigm-shifting watch and operates like nothing before - by activating a "minute-repeater style" repeater on the left side of the case, the top layer of the dial opens up and recedes, exposing the layer below, and the 6'O clock subdial slowly rises up. The entire transformation, or the "metamorphsis", takes 15 seconds.

(As the purposes of the live reporting are speed and real-life photos, for the full specs and the entire background story, please refer to the posted press release and the video by Mike Ting)

Unfortunately, I couldn't see the entire transformation take place in person.

there is only a prototype available that is opened half way, to show the press what it looks like in the middle of the transformation.

Reminds me of the operation of a convertible's hood.

Totally jaw-dropping concept, but seems difficult to use.. I have seen and handled quite a few bizarre watches in my days, but it took me a long time just to get the gist of what's happening.

A watchmaker demonstrating the concept using the movement.

Metamorphasis - with transformation stopped during the the middle.

ExoTourbillon Chronograph, in Rose Gold, and in White Gold

Vintage Chronograph in WG and in RG (my personal favorite)

Nicolas Rieussec with silicon escapement, RG

Although not entirely a novelty, the star of the show last year is now made in white gold

Yours truly,

Jon (Z3)
