Basel 2008 Report: Blancpain

Blancpain expands its beautiful Fifty Fathoms series by a few remarkable watches. First of all, there is an all-black Fifty Fathoms, with a DLC (=Diamond-Like Carbon) coated steel case that is virtually scratch-resistant. Further, the luminous markings on dial and bezel are coated with tinted SuperLuminova. Despite its apparent tone-down colour, the markings are glowing at night, albeit by far not as brightly as those on the regular model.

The displayback reveals the standard movement configuration of the cal. 1315. The series production watches will have a modified rotor, though.

For the ladies, there is the same watch in white.

The new Speed Command Flyback Chronograph comes with a carbon dial and brightly coloured numerals, either orange or yellow.Case diameter is 45 mm.

The co-operation with the young pen-maker Grayson Tighe results in a very unique limited edition. This watch is delivered in a set with a fountain pen and a roller ball pen, which are created from titanium, stainless steel and 18k white and/or pink gold.

If you look closely, you might notice the matte colour of the balance wheel. It is not made from Glucydur, but from titanium grade 5ELL, which is an alloy together with aluminum and vanadium.

Unique highlight among Blancpain's novelties certainly is the "Carrousel volant une minute". Our friend Magnus Bosse from the Blancpainforum has written an interesting article on this timepiece, with many more fabulous pictures.
