A classic chronograph

Hi Fred,

Thanks very much for this Class El Primero review and for reminding us again of the shining history of Zenith. A review of this type makes a lot of sense because it puts the Zenith ‘DNA’ into better perspective.

I have appended some more images of the Prime which was produced from 1995 to 1999 and then continued as the Class El Primero HW (hand wind). I like the 38mm size and more ‘classic’ appearance of the Prime compared with the 40mm Class El Primero HW. The absence of an automatic winding rotor on either provides an uninterrupted view of the El Primero movement.

There have been some recent sober examples of Zenith design and I think that Jeff’s suggestion of two watch lines is an excellent one. We all want Zenith to survive and thrive and if they can diversify their models (and advertising) to appeal to the more traditional as well as the avant-garde then great.

Thanks for the review which I very much enjoyed.

Andrew

I own a Breguet Type XX, so have an eye for the simple black faced chrono design. I would buy this watch over anything in their current catalogue today. Though I have to admit I would prefer the prime model - I am currently fixated on manual wind watches....

I hope so too Jeff

Thanks for the great review. It's a beauty of a watch and like you point out, Zeniths were and still are a great deal considering you get a high-quality, extremely accuracte, in-house chrono movement. You didn't mention it in your review, but I imagine yo...

Death Defying Zeniths....

Thanks Fred for the post. I guess the current Death Defying Extremes will stop when enough PuristS have made their feelngs known... Or there is a change in Zenith management direction... MTF
